The lilac collection photoshoot - behind the scenes
A few insights from the photo shoot for our new collection:
A few weeks ago we were lucky to be able to do a wonderful shoot with the talented Tessa Bricknell from Headcake. Our models were Tandiwe and Elisha. Our founder Mia also did not miss the opportunity to pose a bit in front of the camera :)
We were in beautiful Devon, England, right next to the beach. The scenery was perfect to bring our vision to life. We always see tiija and our designs as #InspiredByNature, so shooting in a lush field or at a dramatic beach is exactly what we love doing.
PS: Doing a photo shoot is a lot less glamorous than you might think. Starting early during sunrise and the morning mist is very aesthetic. But it also means getting up VERY early, especially if the location is far away. Preparing a photo shoot outside also means planning for every possibility, for every type of weather and every situation that might go wrong.
We were hoping for beautiful weather without any rain, but the weather forecast in England is as reliable as a flat tire. Luckily we didn't even have a drizzle, just a few clouds, and we were able to shoot without any meteorological interruptions. Well apart from the wind that constantly blew over our tripod with our white cloth draped over it :D That's why Jesse ended up in the bushes holding the tripod from behind, so it wouldn't fall over from the wind. Sitting in between the bushes, grass and damp he made friends with a good number of spiders and a big mean looking caterpillar (googling afterwards revealed that it was not as harmless as we thought...).
Anyway... :D Planning a photo shoot like this one also requires a lot of time. We had a small team, only a few outfits and 2+1 models. It was still quite complex. A few items from our never ending to do list:
- steaming the clothing the night before
- packing all the tools we need to create a beautiful setting: tripods, large cloth, clamps, lots of fabric to drape around on the ground, safety pins, clothespins, rope, scissors, blankets, stools, etc.
- we also brought accessories such as straw bags, hats and dried flowers
- we added a few more random items such as towels for the models to step on (instead of the wet grass), paper towels just in case, umbrellas, scarves for warmth etc.
- of course we wanted to keep everyone on set happy and content so we packed a variety of snacks such as biscuits and since we were in Devon: lots of vegan sausage rolls :)
- and of course we printed our photo shoot plan with all combinations and items we had to shoot
Jesse carrying around part of our stuff from A to B describes the Behind The Scenes "chaos" the best :D
